A few weeks ago Hubby and I hosted a surprise engagement party for his sister.  Capacity concerns aside (due to the constant storms this spring we couldn’t venture out back as planned and had to cram into our teeny townhouse), we were trying to figure out how to easily and affordably feed 40 people, while staying true to our local loyalties.

Thanks to some awesome producers, we churned out fantastic pastas, beef negimaki, sushi, and other hors d’oeuvres that made it a memorable evening.  We didn’t get pictures of everything (particularly the beef negimaki, NY Strip courtesy of Highland Gourmet – I would practically give away my first child for that stuff), but here are a few:

Recipes to follow.

Infinite thanks to some of our favorite locavores:

-Chris & Patty from Mainly Mushrooms for the gorgeous portabellas (Wrightstown and Doylestown Farmers Market)
-Ben & Dee from Highland Gourmet for the tender, incredible grass-fed NY Strip (Stockton Farmers Market and Highland Gourmet Market)
-Mike from Metropolitan Seafood for the gorgeous sushi-grade tuna (Stockton and Linden Hill Farmers Markets, as well as their store in Clinton, NJ)
-None Such Farms for the meaty chicken breast and tender spring asparagus
-Maximuck’s Farm Market for their wholesome milk in a glass bottle
-The Market @ DelVal for the sweet strawberries
-Altomonte’s for the homemade mozzarella and tomato pie
-Just Food for the rich homemade roast beef
+ the various farmers from the Doylestown, New Hope, and Stockton Farmers Markets supplying us with scallions, early cucumbers, and other items!
